The smart screen for collaboration

The Story

In a world where being far away has become the norm, our team took on the challenge of bringing people closer together through collaboration. Over a three month period I worked with a team of talented designers using the design thinking process to create a unique solution for UX designers.

The Challenge

Our team started out with the broad task of discovering a need for remote workers. After interviewing dozens of remote workers from a genre of fields, we landed on the UX field.

Through four in-depth interviews with remote/hybrid UX designers we created the following problem statement; How might we improve visual communication and collaboration for user experience designers?

Discover

From our interviews it was obvious that UX designers needed a way to collaborate with team members and stakeholder in order to create successful products. The issue with being remote is that in order to collaborate and ideate simultaneously the user must manage multiple tabs or use a laptop/desktop/tablet combination in order to see the person they are collaborating with whilst working through their design.

Define

Based on what we heard from designers, we established three key features that should be included in the final design.

Devlop

Through a series of lo-fi testing four different prototypes, we discovered that a tool for easy sharing seemed to be the most useful for UX designers. These findings allowed us a create a mockup of a device to test with users. We used a tablet, paired with a small touch screen that allowed users to drag and drop their drawings for easy sharing. However what we found was that users would prefer to use this add-on screen for video conferencing.

Iteration
& Feedback

From the feedback we received during testing we chose to pivot our design to be a stand alone video conferencing tool that would allow designers to draw/ideate on their personal device of choice, instead of having purchase a whole new tablet.

The Solution

Meet WEAV-the smart screen for collaboration.

Check out our Figma prototyped website here.

A lo-fi fully functioning prototype was created to express our concept.

Moving Forward

Below are plans for bringing the device to market. More user testing and iteration need to be made to determine key features that may be missing from the device.
